Citizen's houses in the town square are the pride of the town - the most famous is without question the block of eleven houses called Špalíček ("The Block"). Other remarkable sights include the old town hall, Baroque Gabler's house, Gothic Schirdinger's house, originally Renaissance Grüner's house or Pachelbel's house, where General Albrecht of Wallenstein was assassinated during the Thirty Years' War. The Castle of Cheb is an example of imperial palatinate unique to Czech lands. The Black Tower (18.5 m high) dominates the castle grounds.
